Why Pegasus? Though many stories abound regarding the fantastic creature, one stands out to us as a powerfully evocative one that can help re-enchant our vision of education and its purpose in our lives.
Pegasus' name is thought to derive from the Greek word pégé, which means spring. Having alighted upon the great Mountain of Helicon, Pegasus is said to have stamped his hooves, breaking open the ground that released what became known as the Hippocrene Spring, or "horse spring." From that spring it is said that the Muses emerged. These Muses were believed to be the source of both ancient and new inspiration to those who desired to gain knowledge of what became the liberal arts and sciences.
This mythic story of Pegasus powerfully symbolizes our purpose at Pegasus Education to play a part in helping students take flight by breaking open the springs of inspiration in their hearts, minds, and imaginations. We desire for both ourselves and those whom we serve to seek after and live according to truth, goodness, and beauty - wherever it is found - for the sake of wisdom and human flourishing. To do so, we believe that education must be re-enchanted so that it remains a source for holistic formation, life-long growth, and love of learning.
